Initial Build Log 2010 3 axis 4'x10' cnc

Plasma router, designed to be 5 axis with 20" z travel. The first step was to make the machine frame which will be able to be switched to 5 axis in the future.

Swtiching to rack & pinion drive system is key for accuracy, rigidity, and smoothness.

Y & Z carriages re-designed to be stiffer than the original 1.0 version while still being fabricated with minimal additional steel purchases--in other words, utilize steel from the shop racks--what we have.

The controller system will be the big upgrade as the MP1000 system we are currently will not support simultaneous 5 axis control.  The MP3000 controller from CandCNC can control 5 axes simultaneously with some additions to it according to the mfr.  This is the future upgrade.
